Equality & Diversity

Introduction

We specialise in the difficult side of diversity and equality.

As policies, political initiatives and social mores shift around issues or race, gender, sexuality, disability one thing remains constant – issues concerning diversity and equality are difficult, emotive and often invoke extreme differences of perception and belief. For nearly twenty years we have been getting involved with such issues and working with them at the heart of our training and dispute resolution services. Conflict Management Plus Ltd has built up a bank of skills and experience in handling conflicts where equality and diversity issues are central. We are regularly selected above our competitors because we "understand race and equality issues" - (HM Prison Service Race Equality Action Group 2006).

Training

Managing and preventing harassment and bullying at work - This is now even more critical since Majrowski v Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. We have in the past assisted by training managers, conducting awareness sessions for staff and managers, enhancing dispute resolution skills, and support mechanisms.

Supporting Dignity at Work initiatives -Dignity at work initiatives are often discredited or undermined by the way disputes, grievances and difficulties around race, gender etc are handled. We can train you to effectively Receive, Assess, Respond to and Evaluate (RARE model©) a range of case work and informal workplace disputes with diversity and equality issues at the centre. We can advise and design training programmes on using neutral assessment, mediation and effective investigation in this setting.

Helping staff and managers handle inappropriate and oppressive behaviour when it does occur -All unresolved conflict contains ingredients of unfairness, prejudice and inequality – we have developed established ways of managing difficult behaviour as and when it happens. One-day conflict management and managing difficult behaviour programmes can really help people challenge difficult behaviour without losing face, in an assertive way. Our new two-day Taking the Adversity our of Diversity programme is endorsed by ILM and will build people’s confidence so that they do not feel they have to either avoid action, escalate to a senior manager or weaken their challenge.

Dispute resolution

Conflict Management Plus Services specialises in disputes involving power imbalances, bullying and harassment, difficult issues of race, sexuality, gender etc. We can provide independent external mediators, investigators, facilitators and coaches.

Our approach to diversity and equality

  • We are confident working with the difficult end of diversity at work, where arguments happen, discomfort affects working relationships, where people feel oppressed but do not know what to say or do
  • We make sure that we understand the key issues posed by equality and diversity in your organisation
  • We can deliver training and dispute resolution which is robust and able to cope with the challenges posed by inequality, prejudice and oppression
  • We understand and work with your own equality and diversity, dignity at work policy
  • We encourage working communities to keep in dialogue about difficult issues rather than avoid them or fight over them
  • We encourage minimum standards and best practice in conflict diagnosis, and the delivery of informal and formal dispute resolution
