BIS chooses CMP for prestigious
mediation contract
Conflict Management Plus has been selected by BIS (formerly BERR), the Government’s Department for Business Innovation and Skills, to provide in-house mediation training as part of the creation of an internal resolution function.
Susan Young, HR Director at BIS says, “Since announcing to staff that we were looking for potential mediators to be part of an in-house mediation service we have had a number of expressions of interest from across the department demonstrating how keen people are to find out more about mediation and to receive mediation training.”
This is particularly relevant as BIS is the government department responsible for introducing a new dispute resolution framework which emphasises the importance of the early resolution of workplace matters, thus avoiding expensive litigation. This framework came into effect on 6 April 2009.
“We are delighted to have secured the contract to provide training in mediation to the government department responsible for the implementation of the framework for workplace dispute resolution throughout Great Britain and who are obviously advocates of mediation as an effective solution for resolving workplace disputes,” stated John Crawley, CMP’s, Founder and Chair, “we look forward to working with them closely in the future.”

CMP are also part of the the Employment and Workplace Mediation Providers Network Group, who have been working with BERR and the CMC to develop the register. The CMC has created the register to assist potential users of mediation services in assessing the basic standards of training, quality, CPD and administration of the mediation provider.
CMP has historically provided a benchmark for other organisations to follow and continues to be a leading voice in the pursuit of best practice standards.
April 2009 changes to Dispute Resolution Legislation
On 6 April 2009 the Employment Act 2002 (Dispute Resolution) Regulations 2004 will be repealed and will be replaced by a new framework based on the provisions of the Employment Act 2008 in Great Britain. (Source BERR).
