The Investigation Service
We are familiar with undertaking investigations in tricky situations where your organisation is in partnership with others, and staff sit accross both partners; and where policies and procedures may be different. An internal investigator may be seen as being partial and, indeed, part of the 'enemy' orgaisation'.
Our service offers six key benefits:
- Complete independence - we are not identified directly or indirectly with the client or the parties
- Experience - our team is experienced in conducting investigations into difficult issues such as allegations of bullying, harassment, and inappropriate behaviour
- Cost effectiveness - our team will work within your procedure and in line with best practice.
- Flexibility - we can handle as much or as little of the process as you want
- Clear outcomes constructively given to all concerned during a full debrief mean the investigation can draw the past to a close and allow people to move on.
- Includes a half-day client meeting with the investigator
The investigation process
We work with an internal co-ordinator and provide a full support package to help them in this aspect of the investigation. Our investigators will:
- Read and review documentary material and continue to gather other relevant documents as the investigation progresses
- Conduct interviews with the complainant(s), the person(s) complained about and any relevant witnesses identified
- Ensure that individuals understand the process and the ground rules
- Ask such questions so as to provide a fair opportunity for all concerned to present the facts and describe the situation under investigation as each person sees it
- Gather information about key issues, incidents and concerns
- Outline the key incidents and issues in the allegation, as appropriate, and obtain a detailed response
- Summarise and clarify as appropriate the information the interviewee gives
- Check for witnesses for corroboration, mitigation, contradiction and appropriate background or context
- Explain continuing process - particularly the process for signing off notes of the session and confidentiality
- Identify any background issues which emerge which point to the need for organisational changes
- Identify and carry out any additional interviews that need to be conducted in order to build up the 'bigger picture'
