While mediation training may be flavour of the month for some, it has been our mission since 1989. John Crawley, our founding director, was commissioned to write the OCN accredited mediation training manual for Mediation UK in 1996; we developed the first OCR accredited mediation programme in 1999, and the reach of our mediation training across Britain's workplace is as respected as it is extensive.

Over the last 15 years we have developed a model of mediation for the workplace which is unique to Conflict Management Plus Ltd, and is outlined in full in John Crawley and Katherine Graham's publication, Mediation For Managers (NB Books 2002). Our CIP© model allows the mediator to help the parties work on their conflict at three levels - content, interaction, and process.

This model has been developed from our years experience in mediating workplace disputes; and is the model adopted by our mediation practitioners.

Learning and using the Interactive MediationTM model at Work

Since its inception almost 3,000 people have now completed the Certificate in Mediation Skills. Our feedback shows that they find the skills invaluable as managers, people development specialists - and as human beings!

We can change the way you and other people handle conflict. You will be able to defuse arguments and set up a dialogue. Difficult conversations will be managed successfully. You will learn the importance of consistency and managing the dispute
resolution process fairly. You will know how to maximise particpation, even when people are stuck, or when there are power games hapening.

The Certificate in Mediation Skills at Work will prepare you to:

  • Understand conflict at work – how and why it happens
  • Understand your own responses to conflict and how to manage them
  • Practice mediation skills at work in a range of settings
  • Learn skills for working with aggrieved and unhappy colleagues
  • Manage setting up and running a joint mediation meeting
  • Build people’s commitment to mediation at work
  • Create a safe environment in which openness is possible
  • Facilitate communication in a difficult mediation meeting
  • Defuse aggression and handle difficult behaviour assertively
  • Manage power imbalances and oppressive behaviour
  • Manage the mediation process fairly and in line with the needs of the parties
